You may wonder, why I take this detour through history. To me that symbolizes what makes the difference deep down in the soul of the people. We Germans have learned to rely on organized structures to pamper our life. Somebody else has to pay for our mistakes, that is why Germans tend to insure their life. On the other side isn’t it an advantage to realize that we as a group can accomplish more than an individual. Best practice lets take a look at the health insurance. Realizing that medication is to expensive for every individual to deal with by itself. Having everybody pay for the expenses takes away a lot of money from the healthy, that at this point do not need to spend money on medication, but enable the sick to be cured. Yes this is a socialistic attitude, but it also is a humanitarian attitude. Not leaving this substitution to the good will of the rich, but making everybody responsible for this system gives it a structures guarantee.
In the USA health care is your personal duty, and your personal problem. If you have a job that pays enough, you can have some of the best medication in the world, but if you do not have the money, you will get no medication, or it will financially ruin you. But still through that deep feeling, my life is my responsibility, even the needing will not go along with a more social way to deal with this.
The US citizen would prefer to die of not being able to pay for medication, then to allow the government to dictate him to spend his money on a socialistic health system. Based on the idea that he him self, is not effected and can very well pay for his medication. The ones needing will not be asked, and have no lobby to change.
